Activities

This was a 3-year project being implemented in Kalika Municipality and Bharatpur Metropolitan City of Chitwan district. The project was led by Humanity & Inclusion (HI) along with consortium members: Leonard Cheshire (LC) and Sense International (SI) and three local implementing partners: Autism Care Chitwan Society (ACCS), National Federation of Deaf Nepal (NFDN) and COMMITTED.

This project mainly focused on promoting equitable access to quality education and demonstrating learning achievements in basic level grades for girls and boys with disabilities including those with complex disabilities and other children with learning support needs. The project worked towards supporting local government, schools and relevant stakeholders to implement policies, procedures, and plans as part of the system to support the education of children with disabilities and other learning needs. It also focused on capacity building of local teachers as well as parents, community members and other local authorities in the awareness of Inclusive Education in the local school system using UDL and assistive ICT tools and equipment.

Due to closure of Leonard Cheshire globally, COMMITTED, Nepal was able to implement the activities only until November 30th, 2022.

Project :  Accountability & Transparency Mechanism in School Governance System, Sindhupalchowk District

Activities

  • Conducted a seven days Training of Trainers (TOT) on School Governance and Right to Information (RTI) as a tool for three dozen representatives of Illaka 12, Sindhupalchowk District.
  • Formed Village Education Committee (VEC) in five Village Development Committees (VDCs) Gunsa, Thagpalkot, Thangpaldhap, Bhotang and Bhotenamlang which was later dissolved when the local government structures were renamed and replaced by formation of Rural Municipality Education Committee (RMEC).
  • Oriented 27 schools of Illaka 12 on School Governance and RTI.
  • Built a library each in five schools severely affected by the 2015 earthquake. These libraries in five different wards also serve as the venue for the Village Education Committee (VEC) meetings.
  • Conducted VEC meetings to strengthen its function and formulation of its own Village Education Plans.
  • Provided the twenty seven participating schools with library furniture as well as a set of computer and printer each.
  • Trained school head teachers and members of School Management Committees (SMC) on basic computer skills.
  • Conducted RTI tracking and Monitoring campaign along with a publication of RTI manual.
  • Organized a refresher session on School Governance and RTI at 13 schools of Baruwa, Bhotenamlang and Thangpaldhap wards to reinforce their understanding of RTI and energize the local bodies to improve school governance.
  • Formed Rural Municipality Education Committees (RMEC) by replacing former Village Education Committees (VEC) after the restructuring of local governments in Nepal.
  • Conducted various workshops for the formulation of five years’ Rural Municipality Education Plan (RMEP).
  • Collected household and school data for the making of School Improvement Plans.
  • Conducted workshops on Schools’ Improvement Plans to acquire School Improvement Plan updates of all 34 schools that are under Rural Municipality Education Committee (RMEC).
  • A WLEC each was formed in every eight wards of Paanchpokhari Thangpal RM.
  • To ensure accurate and reliable data keeping and reporting, five schools of ward ‘Langarche’ and three of ward ‘Bhanskharka’ in Paanchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality were provided sets of computers and printers each, along with internet access.
  • Supported a set of projector at the Ward Education Committee (WEC) office of Gunsa ward.
  • Published 120 sets of Rural Municipality Education Plan (RMEP) books and disseminated in Paanchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality.
  • Organized a Result Dissemination program of the project which basically comprised of presentation regarding the project outcomes, number of beneficiaries and the challenges faced during project operation.

Activities

Two artificial ponds with 27500 fingerlings added which was later damaged by April 2015 earthquake, repaired affected ponds, trained locals to raise and harvest fish.
