Sri Raithane Secondary School Project

Download PDF Flyer

Far away, in a remote Himalayan village of Nepal, bordering Tibet is “Sanu” a 2nd grader going to Sri Raithane Secondary School of Thangpalkot Village Development Committee (VDC) of Sindhupalchowk District. She is proud that her community school produced an excellent record of 21 out of 23 tenth grade senior students passing the School Leaving Certificate Exams (SLC), when the country’s average passing rate is 63%. Although she cherishes the success of her seniors she fears for her own future. She and her 522 school mates need your kind generosity and help to make improvements to the school’s basic infrastructure needs.

Established in 1961, it is the oldest school in the area comprising mainly of students from the Tamang ethnic group. The question is not whether Sanu’s school has enough energy resources to keep her classrooms warm but if they can actively participate in classwork during harsh Himalayan climate in the absence of window panes. To question is not if she will get to work on innovative science projects, but the quality of education she will receive in a classroom without electricity. The school currently receives government funding for 37% of the teachers’ salaries and the remaining expenses are borne by fees from these underprivileged students.

COMMITTED seeks to help Sanu and her schoolmates’ by making basic improvements that can have immediate positive impact to their learning environment. Currently the school is in dire need of $10,750 to provide the following:

  • Classroom Lighting
  • Floor Work
  • Doors & Windows
  • Books, Stationery, Educational Games, Computers, Musical Instruments
  • Volunteer Teachers
